Wow, it seems like it has been a few months since I posted, but I just saw it has been a couple of years.
A lot of things have been happening since my last post... which I never did follow up on, like many great projects, it fell short of funding and support.
It was going to be the next step in improving life on Ambergris, just trying to make a difference, ease the pain and suffering. The project isn't dead, if we run into some funding and support, we can bring it back to life. Funny that I use those words in this project, because bringing life back to this project, could bring life back to many.
I won't bore you with all the details over the last couple of years, but the founder of ACER sold off the supporting company, they new company that said they were going to continue it didn't, the volunteer staff has disappeared.
So here we are today... did we make a difference in the past? I think so, the medical supplies, the training, the support all had some impact.
I bet, if you could find where some of the equipment we brought to the island ended up, that it is still in use today, so that's a good thing.
So, where do we go from here? No-one every said establishing a Emergency rescue team would be easy.
Is there a need? Look at the number of people on the island. Look at the tourists that visit with medical issues. Look at the number of accidents, the trauma, the robberies, all without an Emergency Response team.
You do the math...
