Search and Rescue for Missing Fisherman

26 October

On Sunday 26 October 2008 ACER responds to report of missing fisherman Manual Perot. Saturday Manual Perot left San Pedro fishing on a makeshift craft. Vessel was taken seaward by strong currents and later and when Manual determined that he could not maneuver the craft back to shore he abandoned the craft and swam for shore. His craft was found by a jet skiier Sunday morning and the find was reported to authorities. ACER was contacted and initiated a search and rescue operation which located the missing fisherman thirty minutes into the operation. Having spent the Saturday night in the mangroves Manual Perot was dehydrated and insect bitten but other wise in good condition.

Team members on rescue included Francis Pinnock, Jacob Santos and Luis Alamilla.

Jason - chairperson for NEMO Dispatched to the inland village of Crooked Tree

Jason has been dispatched as chairperson for NEMO to the inland village of Crooked Tree where flood waters are six feet over the causeway, the only road that leads into the village.

Jason was part of the NEMO assessment operation and he visited the towns of Maypen, Rancho, Lemonal and Burrel Boom.

Residents who have been stranded are currently evacuating the town.

ACER has sent life saving equiptment to Jason to assist with the evacuation and ACER is on standby to assist with this disaster.

Jason has extensive training and experience in swift water rescue and these are the conditions he is facing as the water continues to rise at Crooked Tree.

Predictions are for more rain through next Wednesday.

Just signing on
